Getting The Best Out Of Pinterest and Pinning

Think of Pinterest as a search engine with images. People use the site to save things which matter to them.
The conversation is the actual pinning and repinning of images they are attracted to, or are about things they like or have an interest in.

Unlike Facebook or Twitter, there are very few words used, except for the description on the pins and some text included in the images.

Repins, Likes and Followers

Effectively, it's all about repins. Think of repins as others joining in the "conversation". How many times a pin is repinned and how many pinners repin that pin are the main attributes to having that content show up in the smart feed.
While followers and likes also contribute to this, repins rule!
Following others and repinning their pins will more likely result in them following you back and in turn, repinning some of your pins.

Being Found In Pinterest Search Results

The end game is to have one of your pins or repins show up in the results when someone does a search for a related keyword.
Members can then click the pin and follow the link to your website.

Pinterest Strategies For Success

Knowing the terminology is a great place to start.

Pin = An image.
Board = A collection of Images (usually related to a theme)
Repin = Pinning an image again in a different location .
Group Board = A Board which more than one member can pin to.
Followers = How many are following you.
Following = How many you are following.
Likes = How many people have liked the pin

Getting The Best Results

  1. Always pin high quality large images. Try to use images which have a width of 735px and a height of 1102px. This seems to be the most suggested size in all the Pinterest tutorials and guides I have seen.
  2. Pin frequently and consistently. Try to pin something every day at least. Pin to multiple boards.
  3. RePin others pins. 80% of images on Pinterest have been pinned before.
  4. Use keywords in the description section to let the site know what the pin is about.
  5. Optimize your website or Blog  so visitors can save images ti Pinterest.
